Actually, straight apostrophes (and quotes) are pretty rare in most professionally prepared English ePubs as well. It's not a language difference. We
all have to search for (and type) the curly apostrophes (and curly quotes) specifically when using Sigil—because like Toxaris mentioned—they're different characters. Having Sigil interpret one character as a different one (typing or searching) would be a mistake in my opinion.
