No, that's not exactly the way it works. Every Mobipocket device has a unique identifier called a "PID" (it's a 10-character alphabetic string). In order to allow your friend to read a book that you've bought, you need to go to the website where you bought the book, enter your friend's device PID, and redownload the book, encoded for that PID. A book can be encoded for up to 4 different PIDs at most Mobi stores.
