Karl Mays Erzählung "Vom Tode erstanden" erschien erstmals 1878 unter dem Pseudonym Emma Pollmer in der Zeitschrift "Frohe Stunden". In Old Surehand II wurde sie 1894 eingearbeitet als eine der Geschichten, die sich die bei Mutter Thick anwesenden Gentlemen zur Unterhaltung erzählen.
