Android and iOS smartphone-like portable players already exist. It just so happens that the iOS version (iPod Touch) is very crippled compared to its older sibling while Android players suffer from a lack of popularity (ergo, not a lot of aftermarket accessories). I reckon the issue of lack of accessories will change if Google ever decides to release a 4-5" version of the Asus Nexus 7 or a Samsung Galaxy Nexus sans 3G radio. Still, the Galaxy Nexus is very reasonably priced already ($350 brand new direct from Google). I reckon sooner rather than later, no-contract, factory unlocked smartphone prices (Android at least) will drop to such a level that there'd be little reason for devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Player to exist. How much does cellular hardware add to the BOM? Less than $10?
