Glad to hear that you have got things sorted.

However I guess that raises the question as if the CBR file was a valid RAR archive (which is what it should be for a CBR file) that Calibre did not think that it was. The fact you were able to extract the contents implies that it can not have been a corrupt file. Did you try the rename solution in case it was just incorrectly named? Many reader apps that handle both CBR and CBZ file types will look at the contents and ignore the file extension so that you get away with a file that should have a CBZ extension incorrectly having a CBR one.
