why would B&N make what appears to be a stunningly bad decision to produce a device that is unusable for anyone who lives overseas?

This is an especially puzzling move, considering that expats without ready access to English books in print are some of the most desperate (admittedly limited in number, but devoted nonetheless) potential buyers.

Can anyone explain why B&N would have a “rights issue” that Amazon has been able to solve? Please let me know.
