The device keeps the book covers on its internal memory, which is what you are calling the HD. These files exist regardless if the actual book file exists or not. You can try connecting the Literati to a computer using the usb connection. The HD should show up as a drive. You can then find the folder with these covers and erase them. Hopefully that will clear the problem of having non existing books show up.
