How did you brick it? If you did not take the card out or mess with dd in the root shell, the double tap reset might work for you as well.
make sure the device is turned off (by holding power button long enough).
then press
and hold the power button. power LED should turn on.
at the same time while still holding the power button, repeatedly tap the bottom corners of the screen. device should go into firmware reset.
At least that's how it works for the H2O and other Kobo devices. Don't have a Glo HD to test with
