I don't remember that? The "first-person-shooter roller-coaster ride" matches the Through the Star Gate section of the book, which, like the rest of the novel is told in third person narration.

If anything, fans of the movie have criticized the book for being too direct and explanatory, deflating the mystery of Kubrick's movie.
