RT does not take up 18 GB. The OS and the 10 or 12 apps(including Word, Excel, Power Point and One Note) plus the 5gb partition take up 16Gb. The same priced iPad for example has only 13Gb left before loading up iWorks. It doesn't have expandable memory. So with the same priced model you actually start out with MORE space with Surface than iPad BEFORE even talking about expansion.
