OK. This one seems to not only solve the screen cutoff but ... HOLYCOW ... it rotates automatically.

Read down a few messages and download KTRotate_0.2.zip
Unzip and use the USB cable to copy the install.bin file to the root of your Kindle.
Remove the USB and do Menu -> Settings -> Menu -> Update
Hold breath during restart. (optional)
Works! Woohoo!
