Speeking as a lifelong political independant, You have that wrong.
It is conservatives who outlaw things, and Liberals who tax things or seize them for the Government.
Both groups will whine and throw tantrums about how if you oppose anything they are doing, you must be all for some nasty thing the other group does. There are very few commited people in either camp that have the integrity not to use this tactic at every opportunity.
