Someone else had the same problem on a Windows machine. They tried it on another computer and it worked. Do you have another computer to try? Maybe that's why when Best Buy tried it worked.

But it sounds like when you plug it into the wall it's the same problem. If so, call B&N and ask them to send you a replacement charger.
