Yes, Elephant's Child, from the story The Elephant's Child in The Just So Stories by Rudyard Kipling.

One of my favourite just-so stories too. My aunt used to tell it to me. I fondly remember the great, grey-green, greasy Limpopo River, all set about by fever trees, and the bi-coloured-python-rock-snake.
