AFAIK, no eInk eReader runs anything newer than 4.X.
I've heard it suggested that they are limited to Android implementations that CPU manufacturers (invariably Rockchip or Freescale) have developed for compatibility with eInk controllers, which don't run to anything newer than this.
As such, all demands for "Marshmallow"/"the current version of Android" and comparison to mobile carrier updates for smartphones would appear to be completely pie-in-the-sky.
