You can't be an "industry standard" if you don't have the main players -- and Amazon is THE main player. Adobe is TRYING to make their product "the standard" -- but there's no reason other company's should assist them.
The kindle has sold just fine without Adobe DRM. So will Apple.
That Adobe is the "standard for libraries" is different that "the standard for all ebooks". Publishers demand DRM, Apple already has it's own DRM, no reason to shell out millions of dollars into a competitor's pocket.
