I created an issue for non-compatible devices on github.

What could you try to fix it?
You could enable disable hardware features and see whether those are associated with koreader freezing. Please report positive findings at at the issue made.

For example, I am using koreader on an old HTC Desire HD. It kept freezing on me until I disabled the auto-rotation setting in my phone. (See here.)

It still freezes when the phone automatically disables the screen. So I have set it to 10 minutes and now disable the screen manually. Since the android version is 2.35, I'll first upgrade to a newer android before spending much time on debugging.
