Well, I think that was the idea, though the 12 days of Christmas go from Christmas Day until 5 January - Twelfth Night (as in my favourite Shakespearean play).
But there have been jokes made about everything being repeated in the way they are repeated in the carol. There is a very funny series of thank-you letters, read by Penelope Keith, in which she gets more and more desperate as all the gifts keep arriving each day.
