I have proofed the novels and novellas (except for one) against the first editions (except for two):

• The Touchstone against the 1900 Charles Scribner’s Sons edition;

• The Valley of Decision against the 1902 Charles Scribner’s Sons edition;

• Sanctuary against the 1903 Charles Scribner’s Sons edition;

• The House of Mirth against the 1905 Charles Scribner’s Sons edition;

• Madame de Treymes against the 1907 Charles Scribner’s Sons edition;

• Fruit of the Tree against the 1907 Charles Scribner’s Sons edition;

• Ethan Frome against the 1911 Charles Scribner’s Sons edition;

• The Reef against the 1912 D. Appleton and Company edition;

• The Custom of the Country against the 1913 Charles Scribner’s Sons edition;

• Summer against the 1917 D. Appleton and Company edition;

• The Marne against the 1918 D. Appleton and Company edition;

• The Age of Innocence against the 1920 D. Appleton and Company edition;

• The Glimpses of the Moon against the 1922 D. Appleton and Company edition;

• A Son at the Front against the 1923 Charles Scribner’s Sons edition;

• Old New York against the 1924 D. Appleton and Company edition;

• The Mother’s Recompense against the 1925 D. Appleton and Company edition;

• The Children against the 1928 D. Appleton and Company edition;

• Hudson River Bracketed against the 1929 D. Appleton and Company edition;

• The Gods Arrive against the 1932 D. Appleton and Company edition; and

• The Buccaneers and Fast and Loose against the 1993 University Press of Virginia edition.

About 4,500 mistakes and variants were corrected. The layout for the texts for which scans weren’t available the first time was corrected, and re-checked for the rest – including all paragraph breaks, of course. Please let me know if you find any mistakes.
