Yes, I know exactly what you are referring to ...
The only suggestion I have had to this is that the registration process becomes a little more complicated by asking each newbie to post in the "Introduce Yourself" thread - but that alone will not solve the problem.
Each 'old' thread does have a 'warning' on it to indicate its age; so that's not working - perhaps they should be 'locked' after no posts in (say) 3 months.
I have also suggested that a small dedicated group looks after these newbie posts/ers.
No matter what is put in place it will still not totally stop the problem. I know how difficult it is to get answers to questions, the search routine does not, on occasions, narrow down things as well as it ought to be able to.....
