Funny is easier to react to - ppl KNOW what reaction is required. Sad is harder. Do you go for the 'cry when you're crying' approach, or the 'cheer em up' approach, or the 'tell em how much worse things could be', or just tell them to get the hell over it? (cos THAT helps). My theory? We humans naturally empathise, so we feel similar to the other person - and most of us react badly to sadness in ourselves. Hence, we try to 'fix' it in the other person ASAP, with whatever methodology we use on ourselves when sad and needing to get over it fast.

Sounds like fun! Although it's the middle of winter here, and ya can't hose ppl down when the temperature's down around 17 celcius, it's inhumane!!!
