Congrats, it seems you have an excellent grasp. One thing if you prefer you can use author_sort which creates collections Author Last Name, First Name. Personally I only use tags and series.

I hate all of the tags that get downloaded automatically as well, so I turned that feature off. Go to Preferences - Plugins - Metadata Download plugins and customize each plugin - uncheck the Download Tags box. Now I never get any tags downloaded with the metadata.

Often but not always the series number needs to be tweaked as well.
