Hi dwanthny, my first attempt last night was exactly as you suggest above. I copied across only the folder containing books (which was called called Calibre) and which contained a db file dated June 2010. This was unrecognised, and the possibility remains is that the network copy is damaged in copying across so I do not have a valid db file from June 2010.

Calibre has been pretty quick in creating a new database from the ebook files, but no covers or metadata other than file names survive.

So before I drop the subject do you have any idea if the Cover folder was created by Calibre?
Also - I have unchecked the Sony collection box - if I connect the Sony and add a new book, will I lose the collections already on my sony 300?
