The dialogue is natural and and is reflective of the long friendship between Tapper and Robichaux. The wiping out of memories shows that the influences of Orwell and Huxley are here.

I don't know about action hero, in the other ending I had for the story (and the one that's canon in my imagination) Dr. Tapper dies in an Austrian mental institution. Unless he's undead and....wait that's another story altogether
