Amazon, as of now, seems to want to keep their e-reader presence simple. They have a large reader and a small reader. When they got the new 3G modems, they stopped selling the old models with the old modems.

Look at Sony's product line. I know a lot of older people that are turned off simply because of the way they name their products, which seems to be intuitive chronologically but not if you don't want to spend a bit of time researching the differences.

Basically, in my view, Amazon is using the Kindle and Kindle DX as a way to get people to buy the books, much like the way video game companies subsidize hardware in the hope of video game sales, as evident by the way they lowered the Kindle price after the Nook.

In the end, it's anybody's game. These next couple of months should be interesting in the e-reader market.
