Out microwave broke yesterday, we're pretty sure it is the door latches being too loose or worn or something like that. We've only had it for about 3 years and paid about $100 for it. I'm sure we can get it fixed but it will probably cost us $40 - $50 to do it. Why do that when we can spend an extra $30 or $40 and get a brand new one?<snip>

I bought one on sale before my son was born. After 23 years it needed a new seal ($50), but a new microwave was only $80. So I bought the new one. A year later my mom's microwave (purchased the same time as mine) needed a seal. (dad bought the seal)
My new microwave stopped working 2 years later, mom's was still going strong.

I bought another one ($65). Mom finally bought a new one after it was 27 years old and the door latch couldn't be repaired.
I think manufacturers call it "planned obsolescence" on new products now days.

Just not right...

When mine stopped working, Sears repair told me to purchase a warranty and it would cost less than the repair visit then I wouldn't have to pay for parts as it sounded like it was covered under warranty.

They were right.

I've wondered if it was easy or not. Recluse makes it look easy, maybe because he is a pro at it..
