"Sci-fi" is neutral to people who don't understand its past and context, and highly insulting to those who do. Depending on who you're talking to, it can be almost the "n-word" of science fiction fandom. "SF" is neutral to everyone. Why insult people when you don't have to?
Huh. Interesting. Guess I am "outside the box" as I've always said (and typed out) "science fiction". I see "sci-fi" and I know precisely what it means, I see "SF" and immediately think, "ahh, a short story of some type".

Thanks for the explanation!

**EDIT** -- a bit of clarification, I have never said or typed "LOL" unless I'm quoting someone or mentioning in a post like this one. To me, "Sci-Fi" is just like "LOL". I know what is exactly meant by "LOL", just as I am of someone saying/writing "Sci-Fi".

Goodness, I don't think I'm making any sense..... Maybe I should just put the keyboard down and walk away.
