) is that "leser" implies more a person than a device in most cases. (Well, not in all cases, eg. "card reader" -> "Kartenleser", but still in the majority of cases whenever "leser" is used as subword). "Elektronisches Lesegrät" ("electronic reading device") or just "Lesegerät" seems to be more common in the german speaking area.
