I don't know about the nook vs kindle resolution I've only seen the nook at the store and I could not tell the difference.
However I am able to read on the kindle just fine and don't have any issues. Fonts in my experience are crisp.
No the kindle does not support lending out library books, for me the real issue is my local library does not even lend out ebooks.
The battery is replaceable, it's not like the iPhone where the battery is soldered on. Youtube has a video to show you how to easy it is to replace your battery in less than 5min.
