No, but a download link is not helpful on a desktop computer. So it has become common to add a bar code on webpages which target desktop audience instead. You scan the barcode off your Monitor with the phones camera and be taken right to "download and install."
Very helpful once you got used to it.
For the developer the market is also very easy - especially when your app is not perfect yet you might enjoy that updates are pushed to the device
