You're guessing correctly, unfortunately. On both the margins being typical, and that the books aren't re-formatable.
It was kicked around a
lot when the Reader first launched, but it hasn't been discussed for some time. The formatting on ConnStore books is widely considered ... disagreeable, at best, and the descriptions go downhill from there, all the way to unprintable. And a rapid descent it is, too.
