We'd also need an option to change the picture just in case it's not appropriate but giving users control of their kindle looks like a win-win to me.

you can customize your screen saver. some people have put on personal pictures, others use the cover of the book they are reading.
I actually kind of enjoy most of Amazons supplied pictures. especially the really old ones. I keep meaning to check out the back story on them but never get around to it
