I think O2 were unique amongst the UK carriers in not allowing any pre-ordering at all, so if you wanted one and wanted to stick with O2 then your only option was to queue up.

I want one, but not so badly that I'm prepared to wait in line; 6 Hours Harry, that's dedication!
