Dr Drib, the shamelessly plug your novel thread was a good idea and is generally fun, though I'm not sure it attracts people who are only interested in plugging their book as opposed to generally participating in the forum. It is also not very useful to readers, because, as Worldwalker said, its size is intimidating. I really don't want to plough through hundreds of posts to find that one book that I remember vaguely sounded interesting.
The Book Fair, and a more specific rule for signatures, sound like the best solutions to me, that will help both readers and writers accomplish their goals.
