Erm see the posts above. I don't know about Microsoft, but Mobipocket have also committed to supporting epub. Given that the mobipocket reader supports xhtml natively and the desktop edition opens epub files (they say - I haven't tested). they are certainly ahead of Sony and level wtih Adobe in terms of epub support.

If you don't want to buy DRM content don't buy it. Personally I think it's healthy to have competiton between mobipocket/Digital Editions/µbook.
