They've been abolished for 10 years already here. All transfers are either by mobile pin (even larger amounts, but you need to notify your bank in advance for those), or by bank-to-bank money transfers, either by phone, or by use of electronic banking.

Home purchases are done with a notary. No physical money, in any form, changes hands. Only bankaccounts... When I bought my car, I made a phone call to my bank, and asked them to transfer the required money to the car owner.
