Okay. I logged on to the Internet to get directions to the mall where I am meeting my husband for lunch and saw that this thread had over 400 posts.

Personally, I find the fact that people see this word as offensive amazing considering the denigration of our language (I can only speak for American English since that is where I live) what with the excessive use of profanity within the general populace.
I was walking (with my 8 year old daughter) through a shopping mall behind a group of young people (20's age group) and every other word was f**k. That's not the first time it's happened and I'm sure it won't be the last nor has it been limited to that age group. A highly distinguished gentleman in a lovely business suit was swearing into his blackberry on another occasion.
