One advantage of cheques in this circumstance is that there is a paper-trail....
I haven't used cheques for years.. Anywhere I need a trail, I use my Debit Card...

But I do understand your situation. Many years ago I taught young kids to play the recorder... I charged $5 per session, which was paid in cash.
