B&N is not locking you into a specific store. Their ePub DRM works with any store that carries ePub (except Apple).

I do think Astak needs a modern 6" reader with wifi, epson controller 400mhz processor, at least 1GB of ram and Wifi at $149 (or less) to keep competitive.
