Theoretically, all ADEPT-based ebook readers will be able to (someday) access B&N DRM'ed ebooks. But only B&N will sell books in that format.
A one-way street.

Content Server, which is the Adobe DRM server software, is being updated (already is?) to add the option of password based (B&N style) encryption. So anybody using Adobe DRM will be able to offer their choice of either type of authorization. Adobe's idea is that eventually whichever type of authorization a store decides to use (ID based or Password based) won't matter as they'll be interchangeable from an end user perspective. That's why they made their deal with B&N, to avoid fragmenting ePub DRM if they could.
