Interesting that you mention the vuvuzela, because I've thought of that word lately in relation to the less-use. The word vuvuzela is likely to stick around in English and be familiar to a general audience-- precisely because the word originates from the culture that introduced the item (or at least the culture that "popularized" (if you can use that word for something so widely hated) it.) It is a perfect illustration of how foreign words are introduced into English-- and is exactly what the push for the less-use word isn't.
