The EZ Reader basic 6" can change the viewer to allow zooming on PDF. It can either use ADE or XPDF. It supports XPDF with one page portrait, remove margins portrait, and remove margins, half page landscape. The last one is the most useful for this books you have scanned. But even so the text is still a bit small.
