Comparing a potential mini iPad with e-reader ? I wouldn't think of comparing my archos 5 (in term of functions, that's a mini iPad) to my opus. I can read on both, they have about the same screen size (5"), but the reading on archos experience is no match for the reading on the opus one.
Fist becasue of the screen, second because something dedicated will usually do it's job better. Just like dedicated camera and PMP does their job better than multifunction device.
Ok as a replacement, but not as main reader. I have both, and uses both for what they are good at.

I don't think the people how "don't care", use e-reader, even now. They are different devices, different functions, different users. Plus, smaller sized tablets already do exists...
