i would agree that it is a subject of concern that certain people feel free to show such hostility to prevent others from using a simple word. i have no problem with any of the "liseuse loathers" *not* using the word if they don't want to and in fact i have yet to see one single example of anyone trying to "force" the use of the word on someone who's not interested. on the other hand, a small but vocal group seems to think that if they don't like the word then *no-one* should use and they tend to resort to rather extreme tactics trying to stifle it, and i do find that objectionable.

perhaps as a moderator it's time for me to give a friendly reminder about our guidelines. in a nutshell, be polite and respectful, and that includes when someone uses a different word than your personal choice. that means no name-calling, no attacks, and no mobbing a thread using the word just to complain about that one word. if everyone takes that to heart we'd have no more of these frankly inappropriate attacks which derail conversations and cause arguments. use whatever word you like, but respect the choice of others as well.
