And he did see. Through that lens that lived behind the eye and somewhere between the heart and the brain where the secret wires were connected. There, fired from the past to the future was Eves Montes.
Eves, that perfect silhouette of a girl who had haunted their summers so long ago. An hourglass filled with cool white alabaster sand. Eves, that film star pinup girl that never needed a silver screen to be bigger than life. That one girl in the whole town who had all the boys fitful under their sheets before bed and all the girls sadly looking into mirrors before their beds and eventual dreams of somehow becoming Eves themselves. Where she walked she brought the summer with her and the adoration of all, young and old. The cafe where she sat became a magnet for every other girl and boy in the town. What Eve wore so did all the girls in the days to follow.
Eve was the beating heart of the town.
