Oh, well, most of my childhood spent with a road-slogging, absent father, or cheering a present one across the line on the weekends (at "fun runs" or half-marathons or marathons) leaves me unsurprised. He was a very fit man, and good for him because that lone road ahead was always in his personality.

There's been illness at least a couple of parasite-induced meningitis deaths here from people eating slugs (both of the deaths I know, blokes doing it on a dare). One of the cats we had (Connie) used to eat them all the time (along with cockroaches), with no apparent ill-effects (except a reflex gag from me when I'd tread on half of one in the bedroom).
