I actually don't need to view/highlight pdfs but word documents. The DX manual made me believe, you need to convert everything to a .pdf for Kindle, so that is why I used it in my example. I admit I am rather dissappointed that you can't highlight .pdfs in such an expensive device as DX It still has a very nice screen though so I am not giving up on it yet.
So if I convert my documents into .azw (mobi), could I transfer them easily to the DX via USB cable (not the wireless service)? If I understand it right, then all my notes, bookmarks and highlights to, say, "mydocument.azw" will be stored in a "mydocument.mpb" as well as in "My clippings.txt" and I should be able to move them all (.azw, .mpb and "My clippings.txt") to my PC via the USB cable. Is that correct, pls?
Many thanks in advance!!

Yes, if you convert your documents to mobi format, you can transfer them via USB cable, OR you can have amazon send it wirelessly to your Kindle, (though that will cost you about ten cents/depending on the size of the file, they do have to pay AT&T for it).
Then, all your notes, highlights and last page read info will be stored in the mydocument .mpb in addition to the My Clippings text file. You will be able to move all those files to your computer via USB and access them there.
