You have to be very careful when doing this to keep the calibre database and the metadata.db files in sync on both machines. Make any mistakes and you will either have Calibre entries with missing ebook files, or ebook files with no Calibre entry.

A suggestion that might be worth trying is to keep your Master copy of the Calibre library on the PenDrive. You can make all your changes against that and then just sync to the PC(s) for backup purposes. Do not start forgetting to sync every so often if you go down this route as PenDrives are known to fail!

The attached batch file shows how to set up Calibre to run from the Pendrive, keeping all the library, metadata, binaries ahnd configuration information on the PenDrive. It also means you can use this on a machine that does not already have calibre installed as long as you are it is running Windows. You can use the samke technique for any other OS as long as you have the right batch/script file and correct binaries on the PenDrive.
