Well, illuminated manuscripts were beautiful, hand illustrated by ascetics in monasteries.
That said, I'm an early adopter so when Gutenberg started printing books, I was one of the first to buy one.
Waited two hours in a line. None of this "Apple concierge" nonsense, either. Cold. Muddy. Snowing. Uphill both ways. Nightmare, but it was worth it.
