To be fair though, I've been with AT&T for around ten years, and am fortunate to have no real complaints; coverage in my area has been pretty decent.
Although I doubt I'll ever, ever need it, for now I'm planning to lock in unlimited data on my new iPhone since I qualify for grandfathering in. I'll track usage over the course of the next few months, which includes a few trips, and then reevaluate in the fall or so. I know on the current iPhone, I've never even come close to the 2 GB total, but since that's an original, slower-than-molasses Edge network model, I figure my usage patterns might not be the same with the new iPhone 4.
